Myrtle House
|
 |
Myrtle House is a prominent building on the High Street of Mickleton,
a picturesque village on the northern gateway to the Cotswolds.
Partly Georgian, partly Victorian - and with a little bit of 17th
century as well, the building extends back from its central location
opposite the village green to a secluded walled garden at the back.
The house is full of character, with large, airy rooms, flagstone
floors and a comfortable style that comes from more than two hundred
years of habitation! Where necessary, the house has been tastefully
modernised, without spoiling its appeal. Myrtle House is a Listed
building (recognition the property has particular architectural
or historical interest).

Mickleton and the area
|
|
Mickleton is on the edge of the Cotswolds only 8 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon
and 3 miles from Chipping Campden. It has a Saxon Church, shop,
Post Office, two pubs and a hotel. Set in beautiful countryside,
there is a wealth of places to visit and things to do, all within
easy reach. As well as Shakespeare's Stratford, nearby towns include
Broadway, Chipping Campden, and Stow-on-the-Wold. Several easy walks
start from the Church, and one takes you to the renowned Hidcote
Garden and Kiftsgate Court Gardens. There are several interesting
cycle routes (cycle hire is available - click
for more information), there is good fishing, and golf, gliding
and horse riding can all be arranged for you. Cheltenham, Warwick,
Worcester and Stratford all have racecourses and frequent race meetings.
|
|
There are plenty of options for children in the area. Check
our children's page.
The area is rich in places of historical interest, which are worthy
of a visit. Sudley Castle (home to two Queens of England), Warwick
Castle (over 1,000 years old) and Blenheim Palace (home of the Dukes
of Marlborough and home to Winston Churchill) are all within easy
reach. From medieval Worcester with its Commandery civil war museum,
through Shakespeare's Stratford and historic Warwick, there is plenty
to do. View our maps of the local area and region.

Our Accommodation
|
|
We have five guest rooms; each is individually decorated with its
own style, they are all spacious and have ensuite bathroom, colour
television, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, mini fridge, and alarm
clock radio. Why not view the bedrooms.
Please note all our guest rooms are non-smoking, however, we do
allow smoking in the residents' lounge. Our residents' lounge is
on the ground floor and has big comfy sofas to relax in and enjoy
the selection of magazines and games, or plan the next day's sightseeing
expeditions. If you visit during the winter, there will be an open
fire to welcome you; curl up in front of this on a cold day if the
outdoor activities do not attract you.
|
 |
We offer a full English breakfast, or continental breakfast with
fresh fruit as well as freshly baked croissants as the perfect start
to the day. Picnics can be arranged with a little prior notice,
and special diets can be catered for. Louanne can advise you where
to eat with plenty of sample menus for nearby pubs and restaurants.
We have a full fire certificate, and we are delighted that Myrtle House had been awarded a '4 Star'
rating from the English Tourism Council whilst under the management and ownership of Kate up until 5 December 2006.
As Myrtle House is now under new ownership, we await inspection and accreditation and hope to follow in
Kate’s successful footsteps. Learn

About Keith, Louanne and Josh
|
|
This Christmas Season 2006 rings in a few changes at Myrtle House following its recent sale by Kate
who has been at Myrtle House for the past eight years and who has successfully made it what it is today.
Kate has left big shoes to fill for Myrtle’s new owners, Keith, Louanne and young Josh:
"We are excited by this new chapter in our lives and look forward to the opportunity to grow on Myrtle’s
previous successes as well as the pleasure of welcoming old guests and new."
Louanne knows the importance of a warm welcome when travelling far from home. After leaving her native shores
of South Africa, she has lived in the idyllic villages and towns of Ireland’s east coast, followed by a relocation
to the Cotswolds where she feels she has "found her home from home."
|
|
Keith is also a little far from his childhood hearth, but finds the beauty of the Cotswolds
a sweet consolation when he misses the rugged Northumberland coastline. Together with Josh,
they welcome you to Myrtle House and look forward to imparting the many treasures they have
found this area has to offer you.
